Rendezvous Southend is proud to be supporting SportsAid athlete…

Primary school teachers advised Canaan, 20, to try club-level athletics when they spotted his talent for running on the sports field. Now a member of Woodford Green Athletics Club and reading sports science at university, Canaan trains six days a week in his quest for athletic stardom.

Officially the fastest 800m runner under 20 in the UK in 2018, Canaan is enjoying his best ever season on the track – an achievement he reckons is partly down to Caesars sponsorship.

The SportsAid funding allowed him to attend a world-class training camp in France which has underpinned his national and international successes. Canaan started the year 2018 by winning silver for England at an international outdoor event in Slovakia and went on to take silver and bronze medals as a first year student at the British Universities Championships.

Then, at his first ever senior British Championships final, Canaan placed 6th - the highest placement for a teenager. It was in Belgium that he chalked up a new personal best of 1:47.1 which made him the UK’s fastest person under 20 over 800m in 2018.

“This SportsAid award from the Rendezvous will help with the cost of competing at bigger and better competitions,” he says. “It’s all about setting goals and then surpassing them: that’s what I live for.

“The 800-metres world record holder David Rudisha is my running hero, but boxer Floyd Mayweather is also a big inspiration for his perfectionism and dedication.”

Canaan is just one of the inspirational young athletes being helped by Caesars Foundation, the charitable arm of Caesars Entertainment, to fulfil their potential and bring Olympic and Paralympic medals home to Britain.

Since 1976, SportsAid has helped many of nation's most successful sportsmen and women, including Chris Hoy, Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Ellie Simmonds and Bradley Wiggins.

We are proud to stand alongside the charity.
